This beautifully carved statue represents a mother cradling her pregnant belly and is known as a Luluwa maternity figure. It is associated with Bwanga Bwa Cibola, a social association among the Luluwa people that addresses issues related to human fertility. Within this group, ritual healers called mpaka manga are revered for their mystical abilities to influence supernatural forces, often sought to enhance fertility and protect expectant mothers, newborns, and young children.

The figure embodies the beauty standards of Luluwa culture. Its elongated neck symbolizes positive aesthetic values, adorned with scarification patterns or necklaces that indicate status. Women of higher rank would wear specific necklaces to denote their social standing. The figure's large head and high forehead signify beauty, intelligence, and willpower, while the strong, muscular features reflect a capacity for hard work—qualities highly valued by men in choosing a partner.
